ReCiPe CF error in ecoinvent 3.1 LCIA method pack from nexus

Post by ntichenor » 21 Sep 2016 22:46

Hi openLCA team,

I think I may have stumbled on an error in ReCiPe midpoint H's water depletion potential characterization factors for the ecoinvent 3.1 methods through the nexus. According to Goedkoop et al (2012, pg. 112), the CF's should be the same (= 1) for each resource, except "water, unspecified natural origin," which is measured in kg/m3 and should = 0.001. In my 3.1 methods pack, I have "water, unspecified natural origin" measured in m3/m3 = 0.001 in addition to "water, unspecified natural origin," in kg/m3 = 0.001. I believe the resource measured in m3/m3 should =1. Do you see this on your end?

Best,

Nicole

Hi Nicole,
thank you, we will check - but the ecoinvent LCIA package is created by ecoinvent and not changed by us; you could see that in our method pack 1.5.5, for water depletion, some factors are indeed 0.001 but this is caused by different units (m3 and kg).
Best wishes,
Andreas

update: The ecoinvent 3.1 methods seem indeed not correct here, for water unspecified (see screenshot again).
