Social LCA

Post by zerreit » 15 Jul 2015 16:52

Hello
I am working with OpenLCA for a couple weeks now and I was wondering if anybody has any thoughts or some kind of information on how to perform a social LCA with OpenLCA?. I was reading some info about LCC (Life Cycle Costing) for OpenLCA so my idea was to treat the social LCA method the same way I was reading on the LCC documents but I was wondering if anybody has some other ideas or useful information or has done it before, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, good question.
Actually openLCA is quite often used for social LCA studies, from us, but also by others, see e.g. here http://www.ciraig.org/pdf/event/ACVs201 ... Benoit.pdf. We are currently developing an own (new and better than other existing I would say) database for social LCA, called PSILCA (http://www.greendelta.com/Databases.119 ... ?&L=1#c660). There is also a course at the LCM in Bordeaux this year in September about how to use social LCA and PSILCA with openLCA: http://greendelta.com/Training-Introduc ... 363.0.html.
If you have further comments, please let us know.
Best

Thank you, very useful. But is there any free alternative database that I could import into OpenLCA?. I'm not using this for professional purposes so I don't need very precise data.

There are some published case studies for example which contain data, the most comprehensive one seems still our notebook computer study from 2011: http://www.greendelta.com/uploads/media ... _final.pdf
