Minor Issues and Suggestions with 1.4 (PC)

Hi Andreas,

Just wanted to write about a few minor issues with the version 1.4 for PC. Maybe some of these have already been discussed, in either case here they are:

1. No filter on search like in version 1.3 (by process, flow, etc).

2. TRACI methods outdated.

3. When switching quantitative references, upon pressing “save”, the quantitative reference field goes blank and must be re-determined a second time. After saving the second time, it is fine.

4. Not being able to select “delete all” or “repeat operation for all instances” for example when deleting 2 or more flows/processes.

5. When selecting a flow to place within a process (as an input/output), the flow must physically be double clicked to add it into the system. Highlighting or narrowing down to a specific flow using the filter/search process, and then hitting enter/return key on the keyboard does not add the flow to the process. It simply closes the dialogue box without doing anything.

Suggestions on features that could be added:

6. Being able to export results within each analysis tab.

7. Bulk-edit functions. Example, such as applying a conversion factor to all values/inputs in a process with one step. Another example, switching the electricity mix for multiples processes in one step. I think this is a bit of a complicated recommendation, but just something to think about moving forward with the software that would make it even more use friendly.

Hope you find these useful!

Best,

Michael

Hi Michael,
thanks - to your suggestions:
2, Traci: We implemented a version we obtained directly from US EPA a few months ago, can you maybe be more specific, thank you?
6: you can export the whole analysis results to excel, clicking on the excel export button on the first tab.
The other points are good I think but as you guess point 7 is somewhat complicated.
Cheers
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the followup. Regarding TRACI, the impact results display toxicity in terms of dichlorobenzene equivalents, but I believe they should be CTU because TRACI now uses USEtox if I'm not mistaken.

Also regarding point number 6, if I, for example, go to the Process Contributions Tab and then highlight a specific impact category I want results display for, am I able to print out in excel that listing specifically?

Best,

Michael

i Michael,

you are right with the units - we'll check.
Regarding the "point 6", if you export the product system

2014-07-28 10_58_52-openLCA 1.4.png (13.97 KiB) Viewed 6148 times
then you will obtain a large xls workbook which contains, in sheet "LCI (contributions)", all contributions of all processes to LCI results.

The same is possible for LCIA results:

..I checked now in "our" TRACI method (from the most recent method pack that is public):
2014-07-28 17_06_12-openLCA 1.4.png
2014-07-28 17_06_12-openLCA 1.4.png (22.2 KiB) Viewed 6147 times
so (as I was also assuming before) we are using the USeTox units where relevant / applicable.
All the best,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the reply. I've just re-downloaded the LCIA file for openlca 1.4 from the website. I now see that toxicity values are reported in CTUs. Somehow I had an old version I was importing.

Best,

Michael
