tutorial

Post by gebbissimo1 » 25 Jan 2013 00:19

Dear openLCA community,

our institute began to use openLCA, therefore I wrote a tutorial for the current openLCA version 1.2.9 intended primarily for internal use. In this tutorial the life cycle of an aluminum can will be modeled. By following the steps you should get a very good understanding of the basic features of openLCA and become aware of a few potential pitfalls.

It's about 40 pages long and I hope that some of you find it helpful. You can download it here: Best regards
Christian

Further issues you might encounter / things, which might be of interest to you:

# When importing LCIA methods, units are unassigned (v1.2.9)
=> Please see http://openlca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=38#p18083

# Conversion factors when assigning units (p27 of tutorial)
=> In principle a line always reads - to my best knowledge: <One unit> equals <conversion factor> of <reference unit>.

Applying this principle to the two lines of page 27 of the tutorial:
<1 number of items> equals <conversion factor=1.000> of <ref unit = number of items>
<1 US$> equals <conversion factor=1.111> of <ref unit = number of items>

The last line can be reversed: if 1$= 1.111# then 1/1.111$ = 0.900$ = 1#, which reads one item is worth 0.900$.
