electricity functional unit

Post by openlcar » 01 Mar 2014 15:40

For the process 'electricity', what is the functional unit in which inputs and outputs are expressed? For example, input CaCO₃ has an amount value '0.00106772', but to what value of electricity are these values relevant? Also the amount value changes to '1.07e-3' when the formula view is changed to value view. Why?

Hi, which database and which data set are you referring to? Also, which openLCA version? A process data set does not have a functional unit really (this is relevant for LCA studies), but a quantitative reference. This is highlighted in bold in the flows, and it is also displayed at the general info page of the process editor.

Hi, it seems you are using the NEEDs database:

2014-03-02 10_44_54-openLCA Nexus_ The source for LCA data sets.png (20.55 KiB) Viewed 11156 times
It contains two different electricity, at steam turbine data sets, for two different years.
The quantitative reference is the produced electricity (screenshot from openLCA 1.4):

However, it seems the NEEDs database for openLCA 1.3 that we have in nexus is not complete, at least I could not successfully import it - we'll check. Thanks for your feedback!

This is not understood; the calcium carbonate value must be relative to something, perhaps a watt of output electricity?

The general info page states the quantitative reference: electricity, at steam turbine (straw), emission ctrl., Centr. EU, alloc.... (RER)

There is no value stated for this quantitative reference in the general information page for the process object

In the directory 'flows' there is no object seen for this type of electricity.

Can you please retry - download the pack again and import into a new database. I just tried and it worked for me, especially "your" electricity process has a quantitative reference. To your other point (why is it not a database): In openLCA the databases have the names that you give them.
