ecoinvent 3.1 and LCIA method (CML2001)

Post by roeder » 26 Aug 2014 12:05

Hi,
is it methodologically better to use ecoinvent v3.1 (Nexus .zolca File) together with the "LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus" or with "LCIA Methods ecoinvent 2" to calculate the cml2001 values? (both from http://www.openlca.org/download_page)
With "ecoinvent LCIA Methods 2" the LCIA results are equal to the LCIA value on ecoinvent.org. (only tested for one Dataset and CML2001 – GWP100a).
With “LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus” the LCIA results are different from the LCIA value on ecoinvent.org.

For example:
ecoinvent.org:
injection moulding; RER, LCIA, CML 2001, GWP 100a = 1,1576
openLCA 1.4 with "LCIA Methods ecoinvent 2":
injection moulding; RER, LCIA, CML 2001, GWP 100a = 1,15764
openLCA 1.4 with “LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus":
injection moulding; RER, LCIA, CML 2001, GWP 100a = 1,15565

Or should the "ecoinvent LCIA Methods 2" not be used due to a change between ecoinvent v2 und ecoinvent v3?
thanks for helping.

I have chosen "LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus" to calculate the CML2001 values with ecoinvent v3.1 (Nexus .zolca File).

-One reason is the small difference in some comparisons (see above).
-Another reason: in "LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus" is the CML update from April 2013 included. In ecoinvent v3.1 and v2.2 a CML update from 2007 is included. Ecoinvent is currently working on an update of the methods.

For the calculation of the CED (fossil, renewable) values I use the "LCIA Methods ecoinvent 2" because the CED is not included in "LCIA method pack for openLCA nexus".
