Substitution approach yields wrong conclusions maybe?
Dear all, I am worried that the substitution approach might yield wrong conclusions about the benefit of using recycled material if the reprocessing step has higher impacts than the processing step. You will find a brief pictured explanation at http://energy.m21.cc/files/Recycling.pdf It is possible...

Recycling ratio irrelevant (in ecoinvent database)?
Dear all, I was investigating today at how the production of a car is modeled in the ecoinvent v3 database, more specifically the recycling of the passenger car.The question is not specific to the ecoinvent database, however. Essentially, the production is modeled as followed: ... -> iron scrap -> s...

Re: big difference (3.6x) between ecoinvent and openLCA resu
Dear Andreas, I found another small error. I guess it's not a bug in the calculation algorithm, rather in parsing the ecoinvent database: In the process "operation, passenger car, diesel, EURO5 (CH)" the output in openLCA is 1000km, while according to the ecoinvent v22 database it should be 1km. Thi...

Re: Error in impact assessment
Hi Frida, unfortunately I cannot be of much help, but I doubt that this is a bug in openLCA. Even if there is a bug with a process, I cannot imagine why it would pop up in one product system and not the other one. Thus, I would currently bet that you got one number false. Can't you narrow down the b...

Re: selecting the calculation method (was: Life Cycle Invent
Hi Romana, glad that you're finding the tutorial useful. Just to make sure: You have imported some LCIA methods, right? Neither openLCA nor the U.S. NREL LCI or ELCD database come with those methods. You can download them from the openLCA website though (see http://openlca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=...

Re: LCIA methods for ELCD?
I'm not at all an expert, but in my impression you have to differentiate a bit between process databases (such as ELCD, NREL, ecoinvent) and LCIA methods. To my understanding... - ILCD vs. ecospold are just formats, maybe comparable to jpg and gif - openLCA can import both formats - the ELCD databas...

Re: Negative Results for Resource Use
Hi Frida, unfortunately I cannot help you with respect to your problem. However, there's an easy workaround: you can export the calculation results of your product system to excel (see screenshot attached). Then you can plot the bar chart in excel / libreOffice / .... I believe it would just represe...

big difference (3.6x) between ecoinvent and openLCA results
Hello openLCA team, I am not 100% sure, but believe to have found a systematic error in the openLCA LCI and LCIA calculation for some ecoinvent processes (electricity processes): Process: "electricity, high voltage, production GR, at grid" (, whose output is 3.6kWh electricity... amongst others) Pro...

Re: LCIA methods for ELCD?
Dear Dr Ludwig Gredmaier, === LCIA methods You can download the collection of LCIA methods from the ecoinvent centre here: http://www.openlca.org/download_page#LCIA_methods I believe every major LCIA method is included, IPCC 2007 certainly is. Before the import you will currently have to create a ne...
